The Town of 1770 is the closest mainland point from which to explore the beauty of the Southern Great Barrier Reef, either diving or snorkeling. The Town of 1770 is located half a days drive from Brisbane or Airlie Beach, and has stinger free beaches, surf and is surrounded by National Parks like Eurimbula, Mount Colosseum and Round Hill. The Town of 1770 is probably best known as the second landing site of Lieutenant James Cook and the crew of the Endeavour in May 1770, but it also offers some superb diving sites with Fitzroy Reef and Lady Musgrave just a boat trip away.

Beauty of the Southern Great Barrier Reef

The Bunker Group, which includes Fitzroy Reef, Lady Musgrave, Hoskyn and Fairfax Islands, makes up the southern-most section of the Great Barrier Reef. It has a more temperate climate than the reefs off Cairns and Airlie Beach, and has a wider variety of tropical and subtropical fish, coral and animal life. There are a variety of wreck dives available in the waters around 1770, including the wrecks of the 'Karma', 'Barcoola', and 'Cetacea', to name a few. The reefs and wrecks in this area are all relatively untouched, unexplored and in pristine condition, so come and discover their beauty with the Dive 1770 team.
